{"id":453,"date":"2012-04-19T05:10:39","date_gmt":"2012-04-19T12:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ae0.92e.myftpupload.com\/?p=453"},"modified":"2012-04-19T05:29:35","modified_gmt":"2012-04-19T12:29:35","slug":"the-village-smile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bestvillageblog.com\/?p=453","title":{"rendered":"The Village Smile&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think I have all the right credentials to write this as I was voted Nicest Smile when I graduated High School.\u00a0 This was quite a surprise to me\u00a0 as I thought very straight, perfect teeth would have to be a prerequisite to winning.\u00a0 My front teeth were just like my Mother&#8217;s, which I liked, but they were a little bit crooked, not Nicest Smile material by any means.\u00a0 When I analyze my victory, \u00a0two things come to mind.\u00a0 First&#8230;in the 50&#8217;s we didn&#8217;t really know what we were suppose to look like&#8230;there were no perfect figures, perfect hair, skin or teeth, no super models to emmulate, therefore the smile was judged in a very different way than it would be today.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Secondly,\u00a0my idol was Susan Cahill, and I wanted to be just like her.\u00a0 When I think of it now, \u00a0I probably really liked her because she was friendly and talked to me, even though\u00a0I was\u00a0an underclassmen.\u00a0 I wanted to be the Susan Cahill of my class and in order to do that I had to walk like her, talk like her and smile like her.\u00a0 Susan won Nicest Smile the year before me.\u00a0 I might add she also won Most Popular, Best Personality, Most Likely to Succeed and Nicest Smile.\u00a0 Sadly I didn&#8217;t win the others, but Nicest Smile\u00a0was just fine. \u00a0Actually there was a third reason.\u00a0 My Grandmother taught me many lessons and one\u00a0was respect for older people.\u00a0 Charlotte, if you see an older person walking towards you,\u00a0 always smile at them and say hello.\u00a0\u00a0You may be the only one that recognized them that day, and if you stop and talk to them for a minute that is even better.\u00a0 At the time she told me I thought she was talking about herself and telling me to smile at her and talk to her, which\u00a0I did do, so she knew I was listening to her, and I wouldn&#8217;t get in trouble for bad manners.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I also extended her advice outside the house and started smiling and talking to older people.\u00a0 The results were very rewarding as, \u00a0in most cases, you got very good feedback.\u00a0\u00a0What got me thinking about smiling, \u00a0was the other day I passed a car driven by the best looking clown you would ever want to see.\u00a0 He (or she)\u00a0made me really smile.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if anyone else has noticed, but I have seen more and more clowns (real clowns) driving around lately.\u00a0 I&#8217;m assuming this is happening as our population grows&#8230; more people more\u00a0clowns.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a wonderful thing though, as I don&#8217;t know who could be in the presence of a clown and not smile.\u00a0 I continued my thinking along those lines, and we have so many reasons to smile in the Villages.\u00a0\u00a0 A sunny day, a good golf game, card game, tennis match, good friends, meeting new friends, \u00a0and I&#8217;m sure you can add more reasons of your own.\u00a0 Because there are so many things to smile about in The Villages, \u00a0I do believe I\u00a0no longer\u00a0 have the Susan Cahill smile&#8230;
