{"id":520,"date":"2012-05-25T14:44:36","date_gmt":"2012-05-25T21:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ae0.92e.myftpupload.com\/?p=520"},"modified":"2012-05-29T07:16:20","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T14:16:20","slug":"most-unforgettable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bestvillageblog.com\/?p=520","title":{"rendered":"Most unforgettable&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t actually read a Reader&#8217;s Digest for quite some time now, probably in years, but when I had a subscription, \u00a0it was a good day each month when it arrived. One of the first articles I would immediately search for and read was &#8220;Most Unforgettable Person I&#8217;ve Known&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Over the years I have met many people that I felt should have an article in Reader&#8217;s Digest written about them and I am still meeting more, especially being here in The Villages.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure that Reader&#8217;s Digest still writes those articles, but if they do I have an unforgettable person I would like to tell them about.\u00a0 Betty Eich.\u00a0 Betty and I are fellow members of the Bookworm Book Club and being a relatively new member I remember my first impression of Betty.\u00a0 It was the month we read Molokai and to celebrate the book we had a luncheon meeting with all the Hawaiian trimmings.\u00a0 We even had Hawaiian dancers to entertain us.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After the meeting and before lunch, \u00a0it was announced to come to the front\u00a0of the room for a group picture.\u00a0 I looked around the room and groaned to myself as there were about\u00a060 of us, and in the past having\u00a0 to organize group pictures of sales associates it was always a\u00a0tedious job to get everyone in; \u00a0whose tall, whose short, who doesn&#8217;t want to be seen, who wants to be seen, who wants to sit, who wants to stand, and\u00a0 who\u00a0are the\u00a0unlucky ones that are asked to get down on the floor in front.\u00a0\u00a0Betty\u00a0stepped forward as the photographer and she placed us in a matter of seconds.\u00a0\u00a0She would check the camera, move us around a bit, and after just a few checks she set the camera to take the picture,\u00a0 she stepped into the picture,\u00a0 sat on the floor with the other unlucky ones, \u00a0and the picture was taken.\u00a0\u00a0 I was surprised how effortlessly Betty placed us and how quickly, \u00a0this normally tedious\u00a0task, \u00a0was accomplished.\u00a0 As I attended more meetings I got to enjoy Betty&#8217;s\u00a0input regarding our current book selection, that when it was announced that she was going to be\u00a0facilitating a poetry workshop, \u00a0I immediately wrote the date in my calendar.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0I enjoy poetry, but I am not a student of poetry, and\u00a0by that I mean\u00a0I know very little\u00a0other\u00a0than the poems I\u00a0like rhyme \u00a0every other line.\u00a0\u00a0But I figured it would be good if Betty had anything to do with.\u00a0 And it was more than good, it was excellent and by the end of the workshop, everyone was excited about poetry.\u00a0 Her enthusiasm for the poems were contagious and she had you really thinking about what the poet might have been\u00a0trying to convey.\u00a0 She had a second workshop which was even better, and she is having two in the Fall, which I\u00a0plan on attending.\u00a0\u00a0There are many art shows in The Villages, and I always try to stop by them as it just bowls me over as to the talent\u00a0 of\u00a0some of the residents.\u00a0 I happened to see a Photography show\u00a0advertised in the paper, and decided to run through it, as there are some fantastic photographer&#8217;s.\u00a0 I came around the corner and there was Betty with a display of\u00a0photographa \u00a0she had taken, many of scenes around the Villages.\u00a0 \u00a0 They were beautiful, and one thing that Betty has done is she will mount any picture on canvas, so it almost looks like an oil painting.\u00a0\u00a0She now has\u00a0her pictures on the fine art america site which you can take a look at.\u00a0 \u00a0betty-eich.fineartamerica.com is her web address.\u00a0\u00a0I know these attributes make Betty special, but why unforgettable?\u00a0 Well she also, along with her siblings have written a book..&#8221;Growing Up In Mom&#8217;s Kitchen&#8221;.\u00a0 \u00a0It is a delightful book of family memories, many of which we all have and can identify with.\u00a0\u00a0 Being young in the 40&#8217;s and 50&#8217;s gives us a different perspective on life, and Betty stirs\u00a0 memories with her own family reminescents.\u00a0 There are many good recipes, \u00a0and while reading her book I turned the page and there was the recipe for my all time favorite dessert&#8230;prune whip.\u00a0 That was a special dessert that I had\u00a0forgotten \u00a0all about.\u00a0 Thanks Betty for sharing so many good things with us:\u00a0 your knowledge of poetry, \u00a0showing us our world through your camera lense,\u00a0\u00a0arousing not only our taste buds but \u00a0stirring\u00a0fond memories in all of us.\u00a0\u00a0 You are unforgettable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I haven&#8217;t actually read a Reader&#8217;s Digest for quite some time now, probably in years, but when I had a subscription, \u00a0it was a good day each month when it arrived.
