In the past if someone were to refer to someone as a straight shooter, they would be referring to\u00a0a person\u00a0that was extremely truthful,\u00a0a person that\u00a0would tell you exactly how things were or should be.\u00a0 A straight shooters’ words could sometime be hurtful but\u00a0 I don’t believe that that was their intent, rather their intent was to help you.\u00a0 John Wayne, in my book,\u00a0would be considered a straight shooter.\u00a0 I\u00a0think Straight Shooters are patriotic and\u00a0loyal to their country.\u00a0\u00a0 And\u00a0on that note let me tell you about the Straight Shooters in The Villages.\u00a0\u00a0 I’m sure they all tell the truth,\u00a0 are patriotic and loyal to their country, but\u00a0our Shooters\u00a0add one more attribute\u00a0to their personal resumes.\u00a0\u00a0They like to shoot guns. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Straight Shooters’ Club\u00a0 consists of approximately 80 members, who as one member says, are\u00a0interesting, very knowledgeable and competent men.\u00a0\u00a0 They meet monthly to plan future outings, which consists of visits to local shooting ranges.\u00a0 Some members are interested in black powder shooting, using older rifles to hit targets.\u00a0 Others are interested in taking part in International Defensive Pistol Association competition shoots, and others enjoy sport shooting.\u00a0 \u00a0 Many started out at a young age\u00a0shooting with BB guns, then on to shotguns and rifles.\u00a0 I have stopped from time to time to watch them fire their pistols at the range on Rio Grande, behind the mailboxes.\u00a0 I think they enjoy the camaraderie they share with each other as much as the shooting.\u00a0 Of course, when it\u00a0comes to the actual competition\u00a0I’m sure they forget the friendships for just a few moments.\u00a0 This club is just one more example of the many hobbies one can get involved in and proves that when coming to The Villages, we are not leaving anything behind, rather we are catching up with things we\u00a0loved to do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
